Gluten Free Superbowl Party

Image
My husband and I don't watch football, not even the Superbowl.  I have no interest in football.  None. Fred has very little interest in sports , and, weather permitting, will spend the day working in the yard.  However, we do enjoy good food, especially good snacks!  Here are some gluten free homemade goodies to share: Rachel, at The Fromagette , has a recipe for a homemade Caramelized Onion Dip Linda, The Gluten-Free Homemaker , is sharing some great ideas in her weekly Surfing Saturday post . Andrea has delicious and healthy foods for the big day here . These Double Chocolate Walnut Brownies  look amazing at Alana's Pantry . Kate posted these Blueberry-Apricot Oat Bars  last summer at Gluten Free Gobsmacked .  They look so good I just had to share! Claire at Gluten Freedom is sharing Double Chocolate Espresso Brownie Cookies . And from my own blog, this Gluten Free Whole Grain Bread recipe makes wonderful sandwich rolls. Whether...

Glutino Sandwich Cookie Review

Image
Glutino , one of my favorite brands of gluten free foods, produces two kinds of delicious sandwich cookies.  The Glutino Chocolate Vanilla Crème Cookies , which are gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies filled with vanilla cream, resemble Oreo® cookies.  These cookies have a slightly gritty mouthfeel, but other than that, they are like eating an Oreo®, but gluten free.  Yum! Their Vanilla Crème Cookies , which are gluten-free vanilla sandwich cookies filled with vanilla cream, are similar to Mother's® English Tea Cookies.  These Glutino gluten-free cookies are sooooo good! Cindy If you aren't able to find them where you live, you can purchase them over the internet.  I will receive a small percentage of the purchase price if you purchase items through my Amazon.com links.

Shabtai Gourmet Gluten Free Baked Goods Review

Image
I was pleasantly surprised to receive a box of cake and cookies yesterday from Shabtai Gourmet Gluten Free Bakery .  I guess it wasn’t a complete surprise since they had e-mailed me to see if I would like to review their products.  But with holiday preparations on my mind, I had forgotten all about it. Shabtai Gourmet, a.k.a. Cinderella Sweets, Inc., is a family owned bakery based in Woodmere, NY. They specialize in gluten free, lactose free, soy free, casein free, peanut free & dairy free cakes and cookies. Also, Shabtai Gourmet is certified kosher for Passover by the OK Kosher Certification. My taste-testers included two gluten avoiders and two gluten eaters. We were all very happy with the overall quality of these products. The Apricot Roll was a jelly-roll style cake with a delicious sweet-tart apricot filling and coconut topping. I’m usually not a big fan of pastries with fruit filling, because I don’t care for the overly sweet fruit glop that is frequently us...

Gluten Free Oatmeal Cookies

Image
Oats used to be prohibited in gluten free diets. Eventually, studies showed that pure oats were safe for most people with gluten intolerance. Unfortunately, most of the oats available for sale are not necessarily pure oats. Most oats are grown, stored, milled, and transported so as to allow contamination from wheat, rye, and/or barley. The amount of cross contamination is small, but it is sometimes enough to trigger a reaction in people who are sensitive to gluten. Fortunately, there are certified gluten-free oats available. Bob's Red Mill is certified gluten free. Making gluten free cookies isn’t too different from making regular cookies. The same method is used for both: cream the butter and sugars, beat in the eggs and vanilla, mix in the dry ingredients, etc. The biggest difference, I think, is that the finished gluten free cookies will probably fall apart easier than their wheat-containing counterparts. . I’ve added extra egg whites to this recipe to add some strength...
